New London, Columbus/WMU, Van Buren, WACO all crown champions in SEISC Tournament

MEDIAPOLIS — Union area Southeast Iowa Super Conference wrestling teams had stellar performances on Saturday afternoon with seven wrestlers being crowned champions.
New London led the way with three first place finishers, Columbus Community/WMU had two, Van Buren County and WACO each had one.
For New London, Marcel Lopez continues his quest for his fourth state title. Lopez, 43-0, found himself atop the 126 pound podium with a 26-10 tech fall victory over Garret Dickey of Wapello.
Dominic Lopez, 43-0, looks to get back to the state tournament. He’s on the right track, as he picked up the 160 pound title with a 3-1 decision win over Samuel West of Burlington, Notre Dame.
Trent Wilkerson, 41-6, got himself the 195 crown with a fall victory over Van Buren’s Brant Tedrow.
The three propelled the Tigers to a fifth place finished as a team with a score of 105.
Columbus Community/WMU’s Lane Scorpil was crowned the 120 pound champion after a 5 minute 22 second fall victory over CJ Davis of Burlington, Notre Dame.
At 285, Russel Coil, 24-8, pinned Spencer Kessel of Louisa-Muscatine in 4:43 to stand atop the weight class.
As a team, Columbus Community/WMU had a great outing, grabbing second place with 144 total points.
Van Buren’s lone first place finisher was Dirk Boyles, 21-5. Boyles sat at the top of the 145 bracket after a 2-0 decision win over Louden Huisenga of WACO.
The Warriors finished sixth as a team, scoring 104.
Jonah Clark of WACO grabbed himself a first place finish after a dominating 20-4 tech fall victory over Kai Malone of Columbus Community/WMU in the 220 final.
WACO ended the competition with a team score of 135.5, good enough for fourth place.
