NEW LONDON - The New London football team had quite the task on Friday night, as the Tigers struggled to slow down a talented Iowa Valley team that had already beaten
The Tigers couldn’t contain talented Iowa Valley quarterback Nolan Kriegel, who ran for 157 yards and three scores as the visiting Tigers took down the hosting Tigers in a district clash.
New London’s Gavin Menke-Bailey threw for 62 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 35 yards and a score. London Franklin reached the end zone on a 25-yard touchdown reception, and Brigham Porter scored on a kick return.
Cale Westerbeck led the New London defense with nine tackles, six of which were solo. Porter had 5.5 tackles, including five solo tackles.
It was the sixth time in a row the winner of the New London-Iowa Valley game scored at least 50 points, and the fifth-straight time the winner scored 68 or more.
Iowa Valley now leads the all-time Class 8-Player series, dating back to 2018, wen Iowa Valley beat New London in the regular season, but New London earned revenge in the playoffs, en route to a state title.
New London is now 0-3 on the year. The Tigers will travel to Central City (1-3) this Friday night.
