NEW LONDON — New London football has a lot of talent on the field this season, but also will be without some stars from last fall.
On the football field, New London has put together some of the best teams in the Union area and this year it’s looking good for the Tigers once again.
At quarterback, senior Dom Lopez will run the offense. He put together an efficient 2021 season with 527 yards passing and 10 touchdowns.
On the ground, Lopez was pretty good too, rushing for 184 yards and three touchdowns on 42 carries.
In the backfield, leading rusher Boden Pickle is back for his senior season. Last year, he ran 67 times for 524 yards and eight touchdowns.
Pickle also finished with the second most receiving yards on the Tigers squad in 2021, tallying 122 yards on 11 receptions.
The Tigers wont have Joel Lacy running this season. Lacy was great with the ball in his hands too, rushing for 497 yards and nine touchdowns.
Senior Blaise Porter will be back in the mix this season. He had 26 carries for 275 yards and three touchdowns last year.
While Pickle was one of the main receiving targets last season, it was graduate Bowen Glaha that led. Glaha amassed 479 yards receiving yards on 17 receptions. He and Pickle were the only two to garner more than five receptions.
Junior Michael Raines had targets last year and will get even more this time around.
On defense, many of the Tiger’s leaders are now gone.
Lacy led last year with 67 tackles, 44 solo. Josh Glendening and Devin Swanson followed with 54 and 47. Both are gone.
Pickle along with fellow senior Trent Wilkerson will be a big part of the Tiger’s defense. Pickle had 45 tackles, 33 solo, last year. Wilkerson ended with 41.5 tackles and 27 solo in 2021.
With all the returners, it’s set to be another exciting year for Tiger football.
