LONE TREE — New London needed a victory Friday, and the Tigers got one in spades.
Having lost their last three 8-man football games and a defeat away from postseason elimination, the Tigers routed the Lone Tree Lions 54-8.
New London scored first and never let Lone Tree get off the ground. The Tigers led 7-0 after one quarter, 35-0 at halftime and 47-0 after three quarters as they blistered the Lions for the third time in the last four meetings.
Highland falls
LISBON — A fateful second quarter doomed the Huskies when Highland gave up 22 points to trail 36-0 at halftime in a 43-0 Class A District 5 loss to Lisbon.
Lisbon’s defense was near impenetrable, allowing 16 yards passing and negative six yards rushing.
Yahir Jimenez led Highland’s defense with 8.5 tackles. Brenton Bonebrake led Highland’s offense with two catches for 11 yards and seven rushes for 10 yards.
Pekin leveled
PACKWOOD — It was a 52-0 non-district loss for the Panthers against visiting Belle Plaine.
Pekin only ran 26 plays and punted three times. Colton Comstock didn’t complete any of his five passes. KJ Rohr had 16 yards on nine rushes.
Blake Juhl led the Panthers defense with 8.5 tackles, four solo. Logan Baker had 8.0 tackles and four solo. Luke Long made three solo stops, 5.5 total tackles.
Pekin (0-7) plays at Highland (2-5) Friday.
Pekin’s big play of the game was KJ Rohr’s 65-yard kickoff return, but the Panthers were unable to score off the excellent field position and lost to Belle Plaine Friday, Oct. 8, 2021. (Kevin Rohr/Courtesy)
