New London girls back to state golf meet

NEW SHARON — They had to work for it, but the New London girls golf team are heading back to state in 2021. The Tigers advanced on by 11 strokes, taking second place at the Class 1A Region 5 meet in New Sharon.
New London finished the meet at 392, six strokes back of first-place Sigourney. Pleasantville was right on the Tigers’ heels, at 403.
Highland failed to qualify. The Huskies took fifth at the regional tournament, shooting 426.
Taylor Phillips was again the strongest link for New London. She earned a runner-up medal after shooting an 84. Emma Nye squeaked into the Top-10, finishing 10th with a 99.
Hannah Ortberg shot 102 for the Tigers. Saige Barron and Sophie Malott each shot 107, and Isabelle Nye finished at 120.
Highland’s top golfer was Charlie Aicher, who finished 13th overall, at 101. Kayla Cerny and Jenna Waters each shot 106.
Keli Cerny was the fourth Highland scorer, at 113. Carson Millinger ended her day at 114, and Kerra Longbine scored 119.
