New London girls drop regional preview

FT. MADISON ? The New London girls? basketball team traveled to Ft. Madison last night and dropped a 62-42 matchup against Holy Trinity Catholic, the team that the Tigers are slated to play in the first round of the regional tournament.
A big second quarter helped lift the Crusaders over the Tigers. Holy Trinity followed their nine-point first quarter with 25 points in the second quarter to give them a 34-21 lead at halftime. The Tigers scored six of their first-half points in the first quarter and added 15 in the second.
They slipped again in the third, managing only five points while the Crusaders added 16.
In the final quarter, it was the Tigers? turn to score 16 points. They limited Holy Trinity to only 12, but their efforts weren?t enough.
Caitlin Rice had a standout game with 21 points for New London, and she also grabbed 13 rebounds for the double-double.
Charley Lorber joined Rice with double figures in two categories, putting up 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
The Tigers will play WACO in their SEISC shootout game in Wayland tonight, which starts with a JV contest at 6 p.m.
Regional play begins for the New London girls on Feb. 9 in Ft. Madison.
