New London girls drop road game

WEST BURLINGTON -- The New London girls' basketball team suffered a conference home loss on Friday night at West Burlington. The Tigers fell 57-39 to the Falcons in their final game before the winter break.
Despite being down to six players, New London kept it close at the start of the game. The Tigers trailed by just one point, at 10-9, when the first quarter ended. West Burlington led 27-20 at the halftime break.
The Falcons were able to pull away in the second half. West Burlington won the third quarter 17-10 to take a 44-30 lead into the final quarter, and added four points to that lead by the final buzzer.
All six Tigers who suited up scored at least five points in the loss. Alisha Boles and Layney Loyd led the way, with Boles scoring eight points and pulling down nine rebounds, and Loyd finishing with eight points and seven rebounds.
Marah Hartrick scored seven points and dished out a team-leading three assists. Ashlyn McSorley scored six points, and the duo of Jenna Hummell and Kara Krieger put in five points apiece.
New London is now 1-8 overall heading into the winter break. The Tigers will face Cardinal, their only win of the year so far, in their next game on Friday, Jan. 4.
