NEW LONDON ? The New London wrestling team claimed a pair of wins but fell short against Burlington in their home-opening quadrangular on Thursday night.
The Tigers topped West Hancock (Ill.), 42-24, and defeated West Burlington/Notre Dame by a score of 37-27.

NEW LONDON ? The New London wrestling team claimed a pair of wins but fell short against Burlington in their home-opening quadrangular on Thursday night.
The Tigers topped West Hancock (Ill.), 42-24, and defeated West Burlington/Notre Dame by a score of 37-27.
Burlington won all three of its duals on the night, including a 72-12 victory over the Tigers.
The Tigers won two matches against the Grayhounds ? Reno Chiri pinned Adam Wegmann in just 43 seconds at 126 pounds, and Class 1A?s 10th-ranked heavyweight, Avery Jacobs, won by fall over Vincent Clark in 3:15.
Both New London wrestlers won all three of their matches in the home meet.
Against West Hancock, Jacobs pinned Dan Allen in 2:43 and Chiri pinned Cole Oliver in 1:47.
The Tigers had one other pin in the dual ? at 152 pounds, Brody Burns won by fall over Luke Lowman in 3:48.
New London also got six points from John Knapp (220), Tyler Shinkle (132), Tyler Schneider (145) and Matayo Christianer (182), each of whom received a win by forfeit.
Three weight classes were a double forfeit, and West Hancock won one match by forfeit.
Three Tigers were pinned in the dual.
Against West Burlington/Notre Dame, four Tigers pinned their opponents. Jacobs won by fall over Sam Banks in 1:07, and Jairin Swailes (145) took down Rodrigo Ramos in 2:35.
Burns pinned Coleton Masterson in 1:07, and Tanner Schneider (170) won by fall over Dillon Holtkamp in 1:15.
Chiri won by major decision (11-2) against Tristan Garcia, and Tyler Shinkle had a come-from-behind win by decision against Luke Shipley, 12-11.
Christianer won another match by forfeit at 182 pounds, and the Tigers had to forfeit two matches. Two other matches were a double forfeit. The Tigers lost two matches by fall and one by decision in the dual.
They will wrestle again Saturday when they host the Jeremy Fulk Invitational, starting at 10 a.m.
