Montezuma may be still playing, with the Class 8-Man state semifinals being played this weekend, but the Braves' district, which also includes Union area teams New London, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union, still decided to release its' All-District list. The list was made public on Wednesday, and there are 17 Union area teams named.
New London leads the way with nine honorees. The Tigers had eight players named to the All-District squad, five on the first team and three on the second.
New London defensive lineman Carter Allen was named Defensive MVP for the district. He was the only non-Montezuma player to get a special honor, as the Braves swept offensive MVP (Eddie Burgess), Lineman MVP (Brian Diaz), Special Teams MVP (Owen Cook) and Coach of the Year (Patrick O'Brien).
The Tigers had two names on the first team offense. Sophomore quarterback Blaise Porter and senior offensive lineman Currey Jacobs were both honored on the offensive side of the ball.
New London also had three players named to the first team defense. Defensive MVP Allen, a junior, was joined by fellow defensive lineman Boden Pickle, a sophomore, and senior linebacker Caydin Wahls.
On the second team, the Tigers' offense was represented by sophomore receiver Dom Lopez. On the defense, junior linebacker Devon Swanson was named, as was sophomore Josh Glendening, who made it as a utility player.
W-MU had five players on the full list, three on the first team and two on the second. Representing the Wolves on the first team were senior offensive lineman Chance Malone, senior defensive lineman Jack Jennings and freshman Cam Buffington, who made the team as a punter.
The Wolves had one player on each side of the ball on the second team. Senior offensive lineman Bryce Wade made it on offense, and Junior Noah Sparrow was named as a defensive back.
WACO's four honorees were well spread out. The Warriors had one player named to each of the four teams.
