MONTEZUMA - The New London offense was unstoppable, uncontainable and untouchable on Friday night in Montezuma. In what served as a play-in game for the Class 8-Man playoffs, the Tigers ran around, over and through the Braves' defense, nearly hitting triple digits in a 94-68 victory.
The Tigers began running the ball down Montezuma's throat from the get-go. New London ran for five touchdowns in the first quarter alone, three by Shae Summerfield and two by Caydin Wahls. The biggest run of the quarter was a 65-yard score by Shae Summerfield, and New London was up 36-14 after one quarter.
The two teams split touchdowns in the second quarter, with Summerfield scoring both for New London. At the half, the Tigers led 48-28.
New London's offense continued to roll in the third quarter, hitting 80 points after three. Summerfield had two touchdown runs, Wahls scored his third of the game and Ethan Streeter hit Gab Carter on a 22-yard touchdown pass.
New London just kept pounding in the fourth. Summerfield went for two more scores, one from 42 yards out and one from 32.
Summerfield finished the game with 448 yards on the ground and eight touchdowns, averaging 14 yards a carry in the win. Wahls went for 192 yards and three scores.
Streeter's 22-yard touchdown pass to Carter was his only completion of the day. He only had to throw the ball three times all game.
New London's defense was led by Carter Allen, who finished with 7.5 tackles and a sack. Wahls had one fumble recovery.
New London had to win their last four games of the season to make the playoffs, and they did just that. On Friday, the defending state champions will hit the road to take on No. 1 Don Bosco in their first postseason game since winning that state title last season.
