NEW LONDON — It was two opposite teams in an 8-man football game Friday. New London has a recent state championship. After the contest ended a 52-6 Tigers victory, visiting Calamus-Wheatland had completed its first game and first loss in history .
The visiting Warriors could not withstand the Tiger attack. New London’s fierce defense racked up the statistics.
Dom Lopez recovered a fumble. Devin Swanson, Josh Glendenning and Joel Lacy each had a tackle for loss and 13 tackles combined. Carter Allen (four tackles) and Trent Wilkerson (five tackles) each recorded a sack. Boden Pickle had five tackles.
The offense spread it around the Tiger den as well.
Lacy had two rushing touchdowns as did Ryan Richey. Lopez tossed a TD and ran for one. Glendenning and Pickle each had a rushing score.
Bowen Glaha had 41 of the Tigers 69 receiving yards and caught a touchdown pass. Swanson had the other 28 yards.
New London racked up a team rushing total of 276 yards.
The Tigers were to play Tri-County Friday, but the Trojans are not fielding a team this season.
Winfield-Mount Union will visit New London Friday, Sept. 10.
