New London softball continues hot start

BROOKLYN - The New London softball team has been red hot to begin the 2019 season. The Tigers continued to win games last week, taking three out of four, including two of three this weekend.
New London rolled Columbus 12-0 on Wednesday. They beat Cardinal 11-6 on Friday and then split on Saturday, falling 2-1(9) to Davis County and beating BGM Brooklyn 5-2.
The Tigers needed just three innings to get rid of Columbus on Wednesday. The Tigers scored four in the first, five in the second and three in the third.
New London had 13 hits over their three innings. Chloe Heitmeier was 2-2 with a double and three RBIs, and Marah Hartrick went 1-2 with a double and three RBIs of her own.
Kara Krieger had a multi-RBI game as well, going 2-3 with two RBIs. Ashlyn McSorley went 1-2 with two RBIs. Layney Loyd was 2-3 with an RBI. Sofie Reighard went 1-1 with an RBI, and Elly Manning went 2-2 with a triple and a double.
Heitmeier picked up the win in the circle, going three shutout innings. She gave up four hits and struck out two batters.
A seven-run third inning gave New London an early lead on Friday at Cardinal, and the Tigers never let up. The Comets cut the lead to 7-3 after three innings and 9-6 after four, but the Tigers tacked on one run each in the sixth and seventh.
Krieger had a huge game on Friday, going 2-4 with a triple, a double and four RBIs. Manning was 1-4 with two RBIs. Layney Loyd was 3-5 with two stolen bases. Heitmeier went 2-4 with an RBI, and Reighard was 1-3 with an RBI.
Heitmeier gave up six earned runs on nine hits and two walks over seven innings of work. She struck out five players in the win.
In game one at the BGM tournament on Saturday, New London and Davis County were scoreless after seven innings. Heitmeier knocked in Krieger in the eighth inning, but Davis County scored a run in the eighth as well, and then won it with two outs in the ninth.
Reighard was 3-3 in the loss. Loyd went 3-4 with two stolen bases. Heitmeier went 0-2 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Heitmeier went eight and two-thirds innings in the Tigers' first loss of the year. She gave up two earned runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out four.
BGM took an early lead against the Tigers on Saturday, putting up a run in the first. New London scored two in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead. BGM scoerd a run in the seventh, but the Tigers closed it out to get back in the winner's column.
Kaylor Schulte went 1-2 with two RBIs against BGM. Loyd went 2-3 with an RBI. Krieger and Heitmeier each went 1-3 with an RBI.
Manning picked up the win in the circle. She threw four and one-third innings, giving up one earned run on six hits and one walk, while striking out one.
