FT. MADISON - The New London basketball teams traded single-digit wins with Holy Trinity on Tuesday night. THe Tiger boys staved off a late Crusader rally to win 47-43 in the boys game, and the girls fell victim to a strong HTC second half in a 45-38 loss.
The Tiger boys led 13-9 after the first quarter and then held HTC to a game-low four points in the second period. The Tigers led 23-13 at halftime and stretched that advantage to 38-26 after three quarters. HTC put up a game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter but the Tigers clung on to get some revenge from a home loss to the Crusaders earlier this year.
The New London boys had three double-digit scorers in the win. Blaise Porter led the team with 14 points. Grant Swanson had 13, and Markel Luckett scored 10.
The Tiger girls led 14-9 after the first quarter and 22-19 at halftime, but Holy Trinity outscored the Tigers by 10 points in the last two quarters.
The New London boys will travel to Keokuk on Friday, Jan. 25. The girls will have a week off before hosting Notre Dame on Tuesday, Jan. 28. That will be a girl-boy doubleheader.
