New London sweeps Cardinal
NEW LONDON - The Comets led undefeated New London for the majority of Game 1, but a seven-inning fifth led New London to a 7-2 lead, and the Tigers held on 7-3. New London took Game 2, 14-4 in four innings.
Van Buren’s Dawson Lewis and Tatum Telfer combined to hold New London to just five hits in the first game, but it was enough to push New London forward. Brenden Richey led the Tigers, going 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs.
Henciel Rodriguez gave up just two runs (one earned) in four innings on the mound for New London. Tucker Gibbar earned the win in relief, giving up one earned run over three frames.
It was all New London in Game 2. Carter Allen pitched a four-hit shutout on the mound. Gibbar went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Tiger offense.
Van Buren rallies back
KEOSAUQUA - Van Buren County found itself trailing West Burlington 5-0 heading into the bottom of the second inning, but the Warriors scored seven runs in the second and the runs never stopped coming in a 17-8 victory.
Jackson Manning went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Warriors. Ryan Wolf went 2-for-5 with two doubles nad three RBIs. Wyatt Mertens knocked in three, and both Treyton Bainbridge and Lucas Fett finished with a pair of RBIs.
Wolf picked up the win on the mount, giving up eight runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks, while striking out four. Braydon McDonough pitched two shutout innings in relief.
Highland heaves Lone Tree
RIVERSIDE - It was business as usual for outheast Iowa Super Conference North Division leading Highland, which knocked off Lone Tree, 8-0, to move to 8-1 in conference play.
Bryce Thompson, Connor Grinstead and Peyton Yeggy combined to one-hit the Lions. Yeggy gave up just one hit over three innings. Grinstead threw 3 1/3 shutout innings and Thompson came in for two quick outs.
Logan BoneBrake went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Huskies. Chase Schultz went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Columbus drops 2
COLUMBUS - Louisa-Muscatine came in to Columbus and put a pair of losses on the Wildcats. The Falcons won games 18-3(5) and 17-2(4).
Columbus is now 0-11 on the year. The Wildcats will continue to hunt for their first win on Thursday night when they host Mediapolis for two games.
WMU can’t contain Mediapolis
WINFIELD - The Mediapolis offense was unrelenting in a SEISC North Division game at Winfield-Mount Union. The Bulldogs beat the Wolves 29-3 in four innings.
After giving up nine runs in Mediapolis’ first two at-bats, the Wolves scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning, but the Bulldogs erupted for 13 runs in the third and seven in the fourth.
