NEW LONDON — New London was knocked out one game shy of the state tournament last season and now the Tigers are looking to redeem themselves.
In the opening round of the Class 1A Region 5 bracket, the Tigers certainly sent a message.
The Tigers routed the Bears of English Valleys by 42, 85-43, to advance to the second round.
New London put up over 20 points in three straight quarters, outscoring English Valleys 21-14 in the first quarter and 26-12 in the second to build a 47-26 lead at the break.
In the third, the Tigers held the Bears to just six points, while pouring in another 21. New London held a 68-32 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.
Following the third, the game was all but sealed in the fourth, as the Tigers capped the victory off with 17-11 fourth.
New London will next face off with Iowa Valley, 18-4, on Feb. 17 in the second round of the bracket.
