New London wins SEISC girls golf title

FORT MADISON — It was smooth sailing for the New London girls golf team at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference girls golf tournament on Monday. The Tigers had four of the top nine scores on the day and won the meet by 52 strokes.
New London shot a 404 on the day. The leading Tiger was Taylor Phillips, who finished second place overall with a final score of 91. That put her just one stroke behind SEISC champion Alison Robu of Holy Trinity.
The Tigers had one more first-team All-SEISC honoree. Sophie Mallot finished the tournament in fifth place, at 98.
Saige Barron scored 105 for seventh place. Emma Nye shot 110 for ninth; Ezzabelle Nye finished at 113 for 13th; and Hannah Ortberg shot 118 to tie for 18th.
Van Buren County finished in fourth, shooting 497 for the day. The Warriors had one All-SEISC finisher, as Annabell Cormier finished 10th place to land on the second team.
Zoe Best shot 121 for Van Buren’s second-best score. Bailey Page finished at 122. Jasmine Padget shot 143. Georgia Padget shot 146, and Ivy Davidson finished at 150.
Highland finished fifth place, shooting 498 on the day. Charlie Archer shot 109 to finish eighth overall and lead the Huskies, who had just four players.
Kelsi Cerny was the next Highland golfer down the list, shooting 119. Jenna Waters finished at 134. Kerra Longbine shot 136.
Winfield-Mount Union took sixth place, with a final shot total of 500. Isabell Kann shot 115 to tie for 15th.
Three shots behind her teammate was Abbie Cooley, who finished at 118. Aubrey Meeker shot 131. Afton Wilkerson finished at 136. Alli Humphries shot 139, and Ava Hagge ended the day at 157.
The final Union area team in action was Columbus, which finished eighth place, with a final score of 552. Jobie Lekwa tied for third place overall, shooting 96.
Vanessa Ayala shot 130 for the next best Wildcat score. Faith Barnhart shot 142, and Atlie Hand finished at 184.
