ELDON - The Tiger girls snapped their early season losing streak and found their way to the winner's circle for the first time on Thursday night. New London defeated Cardinal 63-61 in a SEISC South Division road game to pick up their first win of the year.
New London jumped out to an early lead with a 22-13 first quarter to give themselves a little breathing room, but Cardinal chipped away at the lead all night. It was 36-32 at halftime and 47-44 after three periods.
The Tigers pulled it out in the fourth quarter despite being outscored for the third straight period. Cardinal won the quarter 17-16 but that wasn't enough as New London was able to celebrate their first victory under new head coach Chad Wahls.
All seven Tigers on the roster scored in the win. New London was led by Layney Loyd, who put up 18 points, and Marah Hartrick, who scored 13. Ashlyn McSorley put up 10 points to give the Tigers three double-digit scorers.
Both Kara Krieger and Alisha Boles scored nine points in the win. Jenna Hummell and Addie Pry added two points apiece.
New London is now 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the South Division. They'll look to make it two in a row tonight (Tuesday) when they host Notre Dame.
