No. 10 Highland boys fall in 1st game after ranking

All scheduled high school basketball games were played Tuesday.
Pekin 62, Highland 53
In this Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division boys game at Riverside, Pekin was victorious behind Brady Millikin's production of 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a steal.
Pekin had a 11-10 edge in the first quarter. The teams each scored 13 in the second. Highland had a 19-18 edge in the fourth. the decisive quarter was Pekin's edge of 20-11 in the third.
Nick Tshudy scored 14 points and Brayden Sobaski added 10 for Pekin. Kennan Winn hammered the boards for 15 rebounds, then added seven points, three assists and three blocks.
Highland's Zack Lasek and Cole Adamson combined for 33 points while Mason McFarland and Bill Laughlin combined for 18. Derrick Sandburg had four assists.
Highland is 12-2 overall, 9-2 North while Pekin is 9-3, 9-1. Pekin leads the North with by a game. Both of Highland's losses are to Pekin and the Huskies and Lone Tree each have two North losses but Highland has a half game lead over LT's 8-2 record.
Tipton 63, Mid-Prairie 60 OT
The Golden Hawks' furious fourth-quarter rally sent the game into overtime tied at 53-53. The Hawks posted a 21-12 advantage in the final frame.
Carter Harmsen had 14 points in the loss. Aidan Rath put in 11 and Ethan Trimpe 10. Jack Baker had seven rebounds and six points.
Mid-Prairie is 3-9, 3-8.
Hillcrest 49, Mediapolis 38
A strong third quarter turned this SEISC North game for the Ravens. Tied at 21 at halftime, Hilllcrest went on an 18-8 run in the third stanza.
Eli Ours had five assists with 19 points, going 7-of-9 at the line and Ravens teammate Kobe Borntrager was also 7-of-9 at the charity stripe on his way to 17 points. Borntrager had eight rebounds and four blocks Drew Blauveldt added six points (all in the decisive third quarter) and John Hughes five.
'This was a big win for our team at this stage after several tough losses,” Hillcrest coach Dwight Gingerch said. 'We are playing tighter as a team, and harder. Our ball movement was better, which was reflected in our improved assist numbers.”
Hillcrest is 5-6, 5-5.
Wapello 51, Columbus 39
Eric Valdez tallied 14 points and Evan Rees 10 in the SEISC North home loss.
Tipton 46, Mid-Prairie 41
The Golden Hawks girls lost the River Valley Conference road game. The Hawks led 10-8 after one quarter, trailed 19-17 at the half and 31-26 after three quarters.
Phelan Hostetler and Maddie Nonnenmann each scored eight points in the loss. Myah Lugar and Colby Rourke notched six points each.
Mid-Prairie is 4-9, 4-8.
Pekin, 56, Highland 31
In Highland's home game, Pekin led the SEISC Super Conference Morth Division contest 11-6 after one quarter, 30-10 after two and 41-17 after three.
Pekin's Kerrigan Pope domonated with 22 points on 11-of-12 shooting with five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Emilee Linder was 5-of-6 from the field including 2-of-3 on threes while Erika Coleman was 3-of-4 from the field and 5-of-5 at the foul line. Pope and Coleman snagged five rebounds each and Linder passed out four assists.
Alyssa Brase scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and had two steals. Highland teammate Dani Laughlin added eight points on 5-of-5 free throws and a trey while Haley Sweeting scored six.
Pekin is 9-3, 8-3 while Highland is 4-13, 2-10.
Wapello 59, Columbus 17
At Columbus Junction, the Wildcats fell behind 14-3 by the end of the first quarter of the SEISC North game and trailed 34-5 at halftime.
Olivia Carrier had 10 points and eight rebounds for Columbus.
Mediapolis 65, Hillcrest 18
In this road SEISC North game, Esther Hughes led Hillcrest with 10 points, two assists and two steals.
