No. 11 Trojans fall to No. 6 Albia

Softball and baseball action continued Tuesday from around the area.
Trojans falter
The No. 6 (Class 3A) Albia Blue Demons bedeviled the No. 11 (Class 4A) Fairfield Trojans 1-0 in a nonconference softball game at Albia.
The home team scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Allison Rebling struck out 11 for Fairfield and allowed three walks and two hits. Coty Engle, Delany Breen and Peyton McCabe each had a hit for the Trojans.
Huskies tame Lions
Highland took a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division road softball win, 9-5 at Lone Tree.
Abbi Stransky went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in the win.
Grace Batchellor went six inning with six hits, three earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts. Jessica Kraus pitched the seventh and struck out all three outs.
Pekin wins 1, loses 1
The Panthers baseball team scored a 17-6 SEISC North win over Wapello but the softball team lost 12-0.
Mason Juhl had four hits including a double, scored four runs and batted in three runs. Brady Latchem pitched four and a third innings with 10 strikeouts.
Columbus blanked
Louisa-Muscatine took two from the Wildcats with the baseball team falling 15-0 and the softball team losing to the third-ranked (Class 3A) Falcons 12-0. 'It was a rough go,” Columbus softball coach Katie Coil said. 'We couldn't make outs in the first inning, giving up 10 runs.”
Jocelyn Fulton went in to pitch the second and third innings and only gave up two runs and had one strike out.
Grace Conwell had the only hit for the Wildcats and Fulton reached on a walk.
Hillcrest falls
The Ravens gave up five runs in the seventh inning to lose to Burlington Notre Dame 9-0.
It was a scoreless game until the Nikes plated one in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Eli Ours had the only hit for the Ravens.
Anderson throws no-no, W-MU splits with Mepo
The Winfield-Mt. Union softball team made quick work of Mediapolis, blasting the Bullettes 13-3 in three innings. Madie Anderson pitched a no-hitter, striking out eight of her nine batters faced. Carlee Sloan, Anna Anderson and Molly Miller each had two RBIs.
The Wolves' baseball team wasn't so lucky. A seven-run Bulldog sixth helped Mediapolis win 17-3. W-MU was led by Nick Crow, who went 1-2, and Nathan Crow, who was 1-3 with an RBI.
New London softball runs past Cardinal
Layney Loyd had a monster day at the plate to lead New London to an 11-4 conference victory of Cardinal. Loyd went 3-4 with a home run, a double, five RBIs and three runs scored. Maddie Cloke went 2-4 with a double and an RBI to lead the Comets.
New London's Elly Manning picked up the win on the mound, throwing six innings and giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits.
VBC swept by West Burlington
The Van Buren County baseball team lost a thriller in West Burlington, 8-7 in nine innings. The Falcons answered a two-run Warrior seventh with a two-run seventh of their own to send the game into extra innings, and West Burlington walked off in the ninth.
VBC was led by Treyton Bainbridge, who went 2-2 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored.
The softball team was blanked at home, falling 4-0. The squad's lone hit was by Chelsey Huff, who finished 1-2 with a single.
