WASHINGTON — Down 6-0 at halftime of Monday’s Southeast Conference home soccer match, Washington head coach Sally Hart told the Demons it was a clean sheet so go win the second half. With the wind with them, Washington made it a match but lost the second half 4-3 for a 10-3 final.
The wind sent throw-ins 30 yards in the air. The No. 13-ranked (Class 2A) Fort Madison Bloodhounds (7-1, 7-0 SEC) were nearly as fast as the wind as they displayed quickness, speed, ball handling, passing and goal scoring. Washington falls to 5-2, 4-2 and plays at Burlington Thursday.
“They have great coaches,” Hart said. “I expect them to go far in the playoffs but I hope to run into them again.”
Zac Stout scored for Washington as did Brayan Arreola. Emanuel Raymundo scored a goal on a corner kick that curved into the goal untouched.
“It was really pretty,” Hart said. “He works really hard so it’s nice to see him get in the stat sheet.”
