WASHINGTON — Washington softball picked up a huge win on Tuesday night taking down Albia in a 3A ranked showdown, 3-2.
Albia struck first with a single run in the second inning. The Lady Dees held onto that lead for the next three innings, but the Demons would have the last laugh.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Washington (23-11) put all the pressure on Albia (18-12). The Demons rattled off three runs, which included a two RBI single from Alyvia Anderson. Leighton Salazar, Ella Greiner and Isabella Salazar all scored in the sixth frame.
With a two-run lead, all the Demons needed to do was hold Albia to one run. They did just that. The Lady Dees scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh, but that’s all they could muster.
Anderson led the Demons with two hits and two RBIs in the win. Leighton Salazar and Ella Greiner each had a hit as well.
Isabella Salazar, Colbie Greiner and Halle Cuddeback were all but stellar in the circle. The trio combined giving up five hits, two runs (two earned) with three strikeouts.
With the win, Washington improves to 23-11 on the season. Next up the Demons will take on Midland in the first round of the Class 3A Region 8 bracket.
The Demon baseball team played against Grinnell on Tuesday night. Luke Beenblossom knocked in two runs and Caden Greiner knocked in one, but Washington fell 13-4.
