Golden Hawk baseball wins fourth straight district title in victory over Wildcats

WELLMAN — Winning district titles is becoming a bit of a common occurrence for Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball.
On Saturday, the No. 2 Golden Hawks notched their fourth straight district title with a shutout 11-0 victory over the Wildcats of Durant.
With the win, Mid-Prairie (27-6) advances to Tuesday’s substate final in Ottumwa against Van Buren County (25-3). The winner earns a spot in the state tournament.
Mid-Prairie dominated in the box as they scored in all five innings of action in the 2A District 5 title game.
The Golden Hawks got it going early as Cain Brown, Brady Weber, Dylan Henry, Brock Harland, Joe Hall and Collin Miller all getting base knocks.
Brown, Weber and Henry all scored runs as Weber, Henry and Harland each tallied an RBI to make it 3-0.
Behind some stingy defense, the Mid-Prairie bats stayed hot.
In the second, eight Golden Hawks made a trip to the plate, resulting in an additional three runs.
Harland led the way with two RBIs in the inning. Karson Grout, Alex Bean and Henry all made their way around the bases to make it 6-0.
The biggest inning of the night followed as Mid-Prairie went through the lineup once again in the third and plated four to take a 10-0 lead.
Grout notched a pair of RBIs, while Henry and Hall each had one. Brown, Grout, Bean and Pickard were all knocked in.
The scoring wasn’t done just yet.
After Grout singled in the fourth, he later found his way home on a Wildcat error to seal the game.
Bean put together a stellar outing on the mound, throwing a five inning shut out, while giving up just three hits.
The Golden Hawks finished with 13 hits as a team.
Eight of the nine in the starting lineup finished with a hit, while six of the nine scored a run.
Brock Harland drove in three runs on two hits.
Karson Grout finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Dylan Henry went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as well.
Cain Brown had three hits. Brady Weber, Alex Bean and Joe Hall each had one RBI.
Collin Miller, Camron Pickard, Hall and Weber each had a hit.
Tuesday’s substate final will take place at 7 p.m. at Ottumwa High School.
