WASHINGTON — The No. 2 (3A) Washington boys basketball team stayed one game back in the Southeast Conference with a home victory over third-place Burlington on Friday night. The Demons finished a season sweep of the Grayhounds with a 59-49 victory.
For the second time this season, Washington had their hands full with the Grayhounds. Burlington led 18-15 after one period, but Washington took the lead before halftime, 30-27.
Washington exploded out of the locker rooms. The Demons put up a game-high 18 in the third quarter and held Burlington to a game-low seven. Washington’s lead was 48-34 at the end of the third quarter.
Ethan Patterson scored 27 points to lead the Demons. Lucas Kroll added 14, and Kasen Bailey had three to give Washington three double-digit scorers.
The win sets up an enormous game at Washington High School this Friday. The Demons (13-2, 7-1) will host No. 1 Fort Madison (15-0, 7-0) with first place in the SEC on the line.
