ELDON - Cardinal gave third-ranked (1A) Sigourney-Keota a tough first quarter on Friday night, but it was all Cobras from that point forward. After leading 13-8 after one period, SK scored the next 55 points of the ballgame to roll to 7-0 with a 68-8 victory.
If it wasn't the first quarter buzzer that set the Savage Cobras off, it was a Sieren; Sam Sieren, who not only ran for 155 yards and a touchdown, but added an 80-yard touchdown pass to Brady Duwa, his only pass attempt of the day.
Cade Molyneux had a huge night as well. He ran for 120 yards and two scores, and also went 2-for-3 throwing the ball for 30 yards and a score. Colton Clarahan ran for 55 yards and a touchdown, and also went 2-for-4 with a touchdown through the air. Reid Molyneux ran for 53 yards and one touchdown.
Josh Mohr caught two of the five passes thrown by SK finished in the end zone both times, finishing with 58 yards and two scores.
SK also scored on special teams and defense. Levi Crawford returned a Cardinal punt 65 yards to the end zone, and Matt Brainard scored on a 25-yard fumble recovery, the Cobras' first defensive score of the year.
Cardinal's only touchdown was a 53-yard bomb from Jones to Blaine Bryant. Bryant also caught the 2-point conversion on a throw from Griffin Greiner, which at the time cut the SK lead to 13-8.
SK finished the year at 7-0 and Cardinal went 4-3. The two teams could meet again in the playoffs if Cardinal can get a win at Pekin this Friday. SK receives a first-round bye.
