The fourth-ranked Van Buren County girls basketball team has now won eight games in a row. Van Buren beat New London 66-28 on Friday night on the road, and then took down Lynnville-Sully 75-42 at home on Saturday.
New London didn't back down from the heavily favored Warriors on Friday, nearly matching them after one quarter. Van Buren led 17-13 after the first eight minutes, but then ramped it up in the second by outscoring the Tigers 23-3 to take a 40-16 lead into halftime.
Van Buren was able to cruise from that point on, outscoring New London 26-12 in the second half to run away with the win.
Taryn Scheuermann led the Warriors with 25 points and six rebounds. Isabel Manning added 21 points and six rebounds of her own. Chloe Davidson scored 12 points, and both Madison Bartholomew and Grace Davidson had four.
New London was led by a nine-point performance from Kara Krieger. Marah Hartrick finished with eight points and five assists. Layney Loyd scored seven points, and Addie Pry had four points and 10 rebounds.
Saturday's game against Lynnville-Sully wasn't a gimme for Van Buren. L-S had just recently dropped out of the Class 1A rankings.
Van Buren still took care of business. The Warriors led 23-11 after the first quarter, 37-22 at halftime and 57-38 after three quarters. Van Buren outscored L-S 18-4 in the fourth.
Manning had a huge game on Saturday, finishing with a team-leading 31 points. Scheuermann filled the stat sheet with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots. Bartholomew finished with eights points and seven assists. The Davidson twins scored six points each. Lexi Jirak had five, and Zoe Best finished with two.
