No. 5 Williamsburg too much for Fairfield
Trojans held to five points or less in three of four quarters against Raiders

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield girls basketball faced one of its toughest foes of the season on Monday night as the Raiders of Williamsburg came to town.
The No. 5 Raiders showed why their a top five team in Class 3A with a dominant showcase on both sides of the court, walking away with a 61-18 win over the Trojans.
The Raiders jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but the Trojans didn’t back down.
Fairfield guard Faith Jones brought the game within two, 5-3, with a converted and one just under three minutes into the first period.
However, that’s as close as the Trojans would come until the final whistle as the Raiders only enlarged their lead.
Through the following five minutes, Williamsburg scored nine straight to end the quarter up 14-3.
The Raider dominance continued into the second frame as the Williamsburg 9-0 run eclipsed into a 23-0 run.
Fairfield didn’t score a point for nearly 10 minutes between the first and second quarter. Meanwhile, the Raiders built a 28-3 lead.
The Trojans were held without a field goal in the second and scored just three points from the stripe.
Heading into the half, Williamsburg held a 31-6 lead, in large part thanks to the deep ball. The Raiders hit six threes in the first half, connecting on 12 by the end of the 40 minute bout.
Out of the half, Fairfield outscored Williamsburg 4-2 through the early stages of the third, but the Raiders went on to post their highest scoring quarter of the night, notching 21 points highlighted by five threes.
The Trojans scored eight points themselves, but the deficit sat at 52-14 after three. In the fourth, the Raiders won the scoring battle 9-4 to put a cap on it.
With the loss, Fairfield drops to 0-17 on the season.
