NORTH MAHASKA — The seventh-ranked (1A) Keota boys basketball team had a big challenge on Thursday night, heading to North Mahaska in a South Iowa Cedar League crossover game. The Eagles held off the Warhawks 74-64 to earn their 12th-straight victory to start the year.
Keota held a 44-31 lead at halftime, but the Warhawks did outscore Keota by three points in the second half. Luckily for the visiting Eagle fans, North Mahaska didn’t have quite enough juice to knock off the last remaining unbeaten in the SICL.
Sawyer Stout put up 21 points and eight assists in for Keota. Billie Kindred stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots.
Cole Kindred finished the day with 14 points. Tanner Waterhouse had 12. Evan Vittetoe finished with five points and nine rebounds. Chase Sieren had three points, and both Aiden McGuire and Conner Strand finished with two.
The Keota girls had a tough start, getting outscored 41-9 in the first half. The Eagles dropped the girls’ game 66-16.
