No. 7 VBC gets big road win

DONNELLSON - The seventh-ranked Van Buren County girls basketball team was pushed to the limit on Tuesday night at Central Lee. The Hawks played the Warriors tight, but Van Buren hung on for a 51-47 win, and a season sweep of their SEISC South Division foes.
The Warriors led 14-10 after the first quarter, and the two teams played evenly in each of the final three periods. Van Buren held a 24-20 lead after the second quarter and a 38-34 lead after three quarters.
Only four Warriors scored in the win. Isabel Manning led the way, going 7-10 from the field and 5-7 from three-point land to lead the team with 20 points. She also pulled down seven rebounds.
Taryn Scheuermann flirted with a triple double, going off for 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Madison Bartholomew finished wiht 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Chloe Davidson finished with three points, hitting her only shot on the night.
Van Buren has now won four games in a row and holds a 13-2 overall record. The Warriors are one game behind Notre Dame in the South Division, who they will play on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The Warriors will play three games in five days starting on Friday, January 24, when they host Danville.
