ENGLISH VALLEYS - The eighth-ranked New London football team ran all over English Valleys on Friday night. The Tigers jumped on the Bears early and never let up, rolling to their seventh win, 59-6.
The game started off with a 74-yard kickoff return from Keontae Luckett and a PAT from Robert Carrillo. That would've been enough points to pick up the win, but the Tigers tacked on 52 extra points anyway.
The Tigers led 21-0 after the first quarter, 35-0 at halftime and 49-6 after three, erasing any thought of a hangover from last week's close loss at Iowa Valley.
Isaac McSorley and Keontae Luckett were once again unstoppable in the run game. McSorley ran for 151 yards and four touchdowns, and Luckett went for 150 yards and two scores.
Jordan Johnson had 39 yards on the day. Gavin Holmes had just two carries on the night but wound up with 25 yards.
McSorley was 3-8 with 55 yards and a touchdown in the passing game. Darius Whaley caught the touchdown pass, a 28-yarder in the third quarter. Mason Porter had two catches for 27 yards.
Jaxon Allen finished the day with 7.5 tackles to lead the team. Whaley had 6.5 tackles on the night. McSorley and Ryan Richey each pulled down one interception.
The Tigers moved to 7-1 overall with the win and 6-1 in the district. They will very likely make the playoffs with a win against Montezuma on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
If the Tigers do beat Montezuma and H-L-V upsets Iowa Valley, the three teams would be tied for the district championship and the Tigers would automatically make it in. The highest of the three in the final RPI rankings would host a first round game.
