WASHINGTON — Every Southeast Conference softball night this summer seems to be one more step in the march to glory for the Washington Demons.
The ninth-ranked (3A) Demons continued their assault on the league with two more wins on Monday night, sweeping Keokuk 14-5(5) and 6-3 to make it eight-straight wins in the conference.
Leighton Salazar led the Demon offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Halle Cuddeback had the biggest hit of the day, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs.
Ella Greiner finished 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and two RBIs. Makenzie Messer and Colbie Greiner finished with a hit and two RBIs each.
Colbie Greiner picked up the win in the circle, firing up five earned runs over five innings. She struck out seven Keokuk batters.
The Demons and Chiefs were tied up after four innings in Game 2, but Washington scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead, and never gave the advantage back.
Alyvia Anderson was 3-for-4 with a double in the win. Reagan Miller was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Makenzie Messer and Colbie Greiner knocked two runs in each.
Bella Salazar had a nice performance in the circle in Game 2. She went all seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks, while striking out five batters.
Washington is now 16-5 overall and 8-0 in conference play. The Demons lead the conference by three games over second-place Fairfield.
