Not a lot of fun for anybody
Whelp, there ain?t a whole lot to say.

Whelp, there ain?t a whole lot to say.
A 53-0 win can?t be fun for any of the players, no fun for the coaches, no fun for the fans, and most concerning to yours truly, no fun for me.
When I look past my personal enjoyment that I?m sure everybody has on the top of their list of priorities, I do feel for the Centerville coaching staff. It coached a team that was undefeated and breaking down playoff scenarios at this time last year. Now, they?re contemplating whether to stop at Burger King or McDonald?s on the bus ride home.
And Friday, that bus ride was an hour-and-a-half with a 53-0 loss hanging over their heads. Fun.
I was impressed with how Centerville came out of the locker room to begin the game, however. It?s not easy to get excited for a game when you?re 0-6 and know you?re going to get smacked around once again.
It?s like climbing into the Africa exhibit at the zoo wearing pants made of steak. Every week.
Too bad none of that excitement transferred to the field. An opening possession three-and-out for the Reds was followed by Fairfield slicing them up for a quick touchdown.
7-0 and it looked way too easy. Things never really looked any different the rest of the way.
These types of games don?t provide a whole lot of value from a football standpoint. With a trip to play the No. 1 team in the state coming up Friday, Fairfield definitely could have benefited from a game that made them feel a little pressure early before coasting away late. The coasting started with the opening kick Friday.
But it?s not like you can really complain about that. The banged-up Trojans probably took a step in the right direction health-wise, and if the game ever was close against a team like Centerville, it opens up a whole new set of worries.
The real excitement came in the freshman game, a.k.a. the longest game of all time. Fairfield rallied from a 22-12 deficit in the fourth quarter that lasted a solid 45 minutes. Part of the length was due to a lot of passing plays and a total of three touchdowns, but the officials certainly weren?t helping matters.
Calling penalties is one thing, but taking their sweet time to get everybody lined up and going again is another. When regulation finally ended, the game had already pushed the start of the varsity game back ? then there was an overtime period.
Maybe everyone just knew the kind of game that was coming up and wanted to push it back as far as possible.
But regardless of what the clock said, by the end of the night, the Trojans had what they wanted ? a win. Two more games remain, and most likely at least one postseason contest. I?m sure more wins would be appreciated.
