IOWA CITY ? The Fairfield girls track team posted times for the first time in 2009 and got a meet under its belt at Tuesday?s 20-team Demon Indoor in Iowa City.
With a chance to put on the uniform and stretch their legs, the girls participated in just 10 events, but took home several top finishes. Maryn Fulton led the Trojans with a second place finish out of 39 participants in the high jump. Fulton cleared the bar at five feet two inches, and Katie Hammes? shot put of 32 feet earned 10th place out of 50.
Libbey Schubert picked up a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 27.65 seconds and paired that with 12th place in the 60-meter dash (8.19).
?It was a great first meet and allowed us to get a time on the board. I was really pleased with how the girls handled themselves,? said head coach Ron Hunderdosse. ?The highlights would be Schubert in the 200, Fulton?s high jump and Brittney Fry in the relays.?
Fry, along with Nikki Gevock, Amanda Melcher and Lindsey Borgomainerio, posted a time of 10:57 and took 10th place in the 4x800 relay. Fry, Gevock, Melcher and Dana Diers teamed up for a 16th place finish in the 4x400 relay in a time of 4:46.
