Ottumwa was without its regular lineup and Fairfield?s Girindra Selleck and Matt Burnstedt took advantage to notch wins for the Trojans.
Ottumwa took wins in the other seven matches, however, and took a 7-2 decision on Fairfield?s home courts Monday afternoon.
Selleck picked up a 6-3, 7-6 (10-6) victory over Ottumwa?s Nick Sedore at No. 1 singles. Burnstedt ?won a battle of wills? according to head coach Bill Sheppard at No. 3 singles and won a marathon match that needed two tiebreakers 6-7 (10-4), 6-3, 10-6.
Junior Mukund Martin also went to a third-set super tiebreaker at No. 4 singles, but fell to Bryce Carnahan.
Next up for the Trojans is today?s rescheduled match against Mount Pleasant.
