The area’s spring sports stars are just one week away from competing inside the Union coverage area’s confines.
With indoor track and field season wrapping up this week, it’s almost time for area fans to head outside.
Track and soccer practices have been underway for a couple of weeks, but it’s nearly game time on the local soccer fields. The area’s first game takes place on March 24, when Fairfield travels to Burlington RecPlex for a scrimmage game against Notre Dame.
Also beginning next week are local outside track and field meets. A handful of area teams will be at Louisa-Muscatine’s home meet on Monday. Among those in attendance will be Highland, New London, Winfield-Mount Union and Van Buren County.
Washington’s home boys relays will be on Thursday, March 27. Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant, Keota, Highland, WACO, Winfield-Mount Union and Columbus are all scheduled to attend.
This week also marks the first day of high school golf practice, as golfers begin to go out on Monday, March 17. Golf and tennis meets will begin in the first week of April.
