Pair of Panthers, Cobras off to girls state bowling
Mt. Pleasant’s Millard, Drury get in 2A, trio of SK bowlers qualify

Regional bowling tournaments on both the girls’ and boys’ side took place this week, and the area will get a full handful of bowlers at the state meets, which will take place next week in Waterloo.
Four area bowlers will be off to state on the girls’ side, including a pair of Mt. Pleasant Panthers. At the qualifying meet in Keokuk, both Mt. Pleasant’s Madalyn Millard and Bethany Drury scored high enough to advance as individuals.
Millard finished fifth overall at the regional meet, bowling a 586. She bowled a 197, a 232 and a 157 in her three games to qualify for her first ever state competition.
Drury, a 2024 state qualifier, is going back after sneaking into the field with an eighth-place finish, taking the final transfer spot in the regional. She bowled a 153, a 176 and a 233 to storm back into the Top-8 in her third game.
As a team, Mt. Pleasant finished fourth in a field of eight, scoring 2,214. Keokuk (2,888) and Oskaloosa (2,599) both advanced from the regional.
In Class 1A, Sigourney-Keota’s Sophie Young and Jayden Montgomery will be off to state after finishing second and third respectively at the qualifier at Davis County.
Young bowled a 575 to take second place. She rolled a 169, 228 and a 178 in her three games. Montgomery was close behind in third, bowling a 190, a 203 and a 160 to finish out at 553.
SK nearly made it in as a team, bowling a 2,219, which was third place out of the seven teams. Fairfield took fourth, with a 1,949, and Washington was seventh, with a 910.
The only area boy to make the state tournament was Sigourney-Keota’s Landyn Greiner, who finished fourth at the Class 1A qualifier at Davis County. He bowled a 637.
SK nearly made the state tournament as a team, finishing at 2,727, for third place, which was less than 100 pins off second.
The 2025 state meet will take place from Feb. 24-26 at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.
