Panther baseball announces end-of-year awards

MT. PLEASANT - The Mt. Pleasant baseball team handed out its end-of-year awards last week, just a couple of weeks after the end of the 2020 high school baseball season. Upper-clasemen dominated the list, as seniors and juniors swept the awards.
Team MVP went to Corbin Broeker, a senior short stop and pitcher. Broeker hit .324 this season with two doubles and 13 RBIs, and also finished the season with a 1.56 ERA on the mound, a top-five mark in the Southeast Conference.
Nik Coble and Clayton Lowery, another pair of seniors, were named Co-Offensive Player of the Year.
Coble, a pitcher and first-baseman hit .296 with five home runs, four doubles and 30 RBIs. He was also stellar on the mound, finishing the year with a 1.30 ERA and an SEC-leading 46 strikeouts.
Lowery, a third baseman and pitcher, hit .356 on the year, with eight doubles, four triples and 19 RBIs.
Rylan Seberg was named Defensive Player of the year. The senior utility man spent time in the infield and the outfield after taking his junior year off in 2019. He also got it done at the plate, hitting .367 with six doubles, a triple and 20 RBIs.
Junior Chase Williamson was named Most Improved Player of the year. He led the squad wit ha .392 batting average, and also had three doubles and 11 RBIs.
A couple more juniors; Jack Johnson and Sawyer Carrasco, were given awards. Johnson was named Rookie of the Year after hitting .302 with 10 RBIs. Carrasco was given the 2020 Panther award.
