Panther baseball drops non-conference game to Burlington, 9-6

The Mt. Pleasant baseball team finished up the regular season Tuesday evening with a 9-6 loss to Burlington in a non-conference match-up held at Community Field.

The Panthers (25-8 overall) took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Korbin Taylor, which was followed by a two RBI double by Ross Heitmeier. Burlington took a 4-3 lead in the top of the second before Brian Pflum hit a three RBI triple to extend the Grayhounds lead to 7-3.

Jacob Falls hit a two RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to extend Burlington's lead to 9-3 but RBI singles from Taylor and Ryan Shull weren't enough to close the gap as the Grayhounds improved to 17-14 overall on the season.

Taylor took the loss for Mt. Pleasant on the mound, allowing seven runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk over five innings. Jacob Dilks struck out two with one walk but allowed two runs on four hits in a two inning relief appearance.

Heitmeier led Mt. Pleasant at the plate against Burlington, going two-for-four with two RBIs and a double. Shull, Henry Krieger-Coble and Tanner Courtney each also added two-for-four outings in the loss.

Mt. Pleasant begins district play on Friday evening, hosting Washington at 7 p.m.
