MT. PLEASANT — The runs have been flowing at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex this week, and for the last three games, the majority of those have come off the bats of the Mt. Pleasant Panthers.
After a couple of home wins over Keokuk on Monday, the Panthers were back at it on Wednesday, when they blasted Davis County 18-2 in just four innings.
The Panthers batted through the lineup in the first inning, pushing four runs across in the process. Davis County scored one in the second, but Mt. Pleasant erupted for 14 runs in the third to bust the game wide-open.
Leadoff hitter Chase Williamson paced the Panthers in the win. He went 3-for-4 on the night with two doubles and four RBIs.
Williamson credited a little extra work in the batting cages and some advice from assistant coach Curtis Bjork for the breakout performance.
“Bjork has always preached to us to sit back and drive it,” Williamson said. “That’s what we did tonight, and as you can tell, it worked out in our favor.”
Trevor Wellington went 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Payton Hagans was 2-for-2 with two RBIs in the win. Colton Hutson went 1-for-2 with three RBIs, and Jack Johnson and Zerek Venghaus each knocked two in.
Jake Ensminger threw a four-inning gem for the Panthers, giving up two earned runs on four hits and no walks, while striking out four batters.
