MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant boys soccer team battled Keokuk in a rain out makeup game on Tuesday. The Panthers controlled the entire game en route to a 4-2 victory.
Mt. Pleasant dominated the first half, getting shot after shot against Keokuk keeper Erich Profeta. The Panthers scored three times.
Dylan White scored Mt. Pleasant’s first goal, burying a shot on a direct kick, which landed in the far corner. White scored another from well inside the box with just under 10 minutes left in the half.
Mt. Pleasant’s third goal came from Jonah Zimmer. Zimmer had his opening shot saved by Profeta, but he headed it in off the rebound.
“The keeper made a good save,” Zimmer said. “It popped up in the air, and I just read it and put it back in.”
The Chiefs put up a much better fight in the second half. Keokuk scored two goals in the final 40 minutes of the game.
“Hats off to Keokuk,” said Mt. Pleasant head coach Rocco Russo. “They don't have a lot of guys on that team, but they played hard, the whole 80 minutes of that game.”
Zimmer scored once in the second half to put in his second goal of the game.
Mt. Pleasant moved to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in SEC play with the win.
