Panther boys in 10th after day 1 at state golf

FT. DODGE - The Mt. Pleasant boys' golf team will have some work to do on day two of the state tournament in Ft. Dodge. The Panthers are 10th out of 10 teams after one round of play, shooting a 335 on the day.
The Panthers are 45 strokes off Nevada, who currently holds the lead with a 300. Spirit Lake is three shots behind Nevada, at 303. Spencer shot a 307. Central DeWitt and Norwalk each finished at 317. Pella shot 319. Oskaloosa and Clear Lake shot 319 each, and Carroll shot 325.
The team leader after day one is Jake Moffett, who finished the day at 77, shooting a 37 on the front nine and a 40 on the back. He had two birdies on the day, one on hole 10 and one on hole 16, and comes in to Friday's action tied for 19th.
Trace White is tied for 39th after shooting an 83 on day one. He shot a 41 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine, making birdie on hole five in the process.
Rhett Zeglen was the third best Panther on the day. He is currently tied for 55th, shooting a 38 on the front and a 49 on the back to finish out at 87. Zeglen made one birdie, on hole six.
Brevin Wilson finished the day at 88, shooting a 45 on the front and a 43 on the back to finish the day tied for 59th. He birdied three holes; eight, 10 and 18.
Bailey Shelledy finished the day in a tie for 61st. He shot a 40 and a 49 to go in to Friday's action with an 89.
Reece Kempker comes in to the final day in 68th overall. He shot a 53 on both the front and the back to finish day one at 106.
West Delaware's Brandon Larsen is the leader in the clubhouse, shooting a 69 on day one. Notre Dame-West Burlington's Matthew Briggs is two shots back, at -1.
In the Class 1A tournament at Newton, Winfield-Mt. Union's Jarod Kadel is tied for 24th. He shot an 87 on the day, shooting a 42 on the front nine and a 45 on the back. Kadel is 15 shots off the leader, Ethan Stretcher of Edgewood-Colesburg, who shot a 72.
