MT. PLEASANT - It has been almost two years since the Mt. Pleasant tennis teams were able to take the courts at East Lake Park. With two years removed, the Panther boys will have half its team back but the girls will be looking toward a rebuild.
The Panther boys had a couple of state qualifiers in 2019 in seniors Corbin Broeker and Jaxon Hoyle. Mt. Pleasant would have already had to replace those two in 2020, but they are now down to three letterwinners with varsity experience.
Mt. Pleasant returns Seniors Jack Scimmelpfennig, David Nguyen and Jack Johnson, along with junior Levi Graber from the 2019 squad, which took second place in the Southeast Conference.
Coach Tyler Rodgers says he isn't sure how the 2021 SEC race will shake up. He says he'd like to think his guys have as good of a shot as any.
The Panther girls would have returned two players from a senior-led squad which took fourth in the conference. Makayla Ackles and Olivia Larson would have been the senior leaders this year, but both players graduated early.
Panther girls head coach Steve Scott says he is trying to get enough players to field a team in 2021. So far just a small handful of players have signed up.
