OSKALOOSA — The Mt. Pleasant boys basketball team finally has its big win. The Panthers got it on Tuesday night against a talented Oskaloosa team, stunning the Indians on their own home floor.
Mt. Pleasant held off a fierce Osky rush in the final seconds to win the game 48-45, their fourth win of the year and first over a ranked team.
The Panthers trailed 12-7 after one quarter, but came out on fire in the second. An 18-7 run helped Mt. Pleasant rush out to a 25-19 halftime advantage.
The Panthers brought that lead all the way to double digits early in the fourth quarter, but Oskaloosa began to chip away and even had a chance to tie or win it in the final seconds. Isaiah Lange, who finished the night with a team-leading 19 points, pulled down the game-sealing rebound and hit one free throw in the final ticks to bring the lead back up to three points.
Isaiah Lange was the only Panther with double digits in points. Noah Lange and Aiden Humble had eight points each. Ryan Helling finished with seven. Keegan Heaton had three, and Clayton Lowery finished with two.
The big win sets up a chance to move to 5-7 if the Panthers can knock off Ft. Madison (1-11, 1-5) on Friday night at the Hound Dome in a Southeast Conference road game.
