KEOKUK — The Mt. Pleasant boys tennis team lost a Southeast Conference battle at Keokuk on Monday, dropping its second match of the year and its first of SEC play.
The Panthers struggled at the top in both the singles and doubles competitions in a 6-3 loss.
Mt. Pleasant had two wins in the singles competition. Brian Huynh swept the No. 5 singles match 6-0 and 6-1 against Keokuk’s Brandon Worster, and Jake Ensminger took the No. 6 match 6-0, 6-0 over Keokuk’s Noah Kelly.
The Panther boys dropped four singles matches on the day. David Nguyen fell 6-0, 6-0 against Abbot Haner. Jack Schimmelpfennig dropped the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-2 against Callum Tackes. Levi Graber fell 6-1, 6-1 against Kaiden Stoneking, and Lincoln Henrisksen lost 6-1, 6-3 against Ivan Lopez.
The Panthers won one doubles match. Graber and Huynh picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Worster and Kelly to give Mt. Pleasant its third win of the day.
The Panthers would have needed to win both the top doubles matches to get a team win, but Keokuk swept both.
Nguyen and Schimmelpfennig fell 6-3, 6-3 to Tackes and Stoneking in the No. 1 doubles match. In the No. 2 doubles match, Henriksen and Ensminger fell 6-3, 6-1 against Haner and Lopez.
