Panther girls 2nd, boys 3rd in Pella
Mt. Pleasant collects 7 wins in Tulip Time Relays

PELLA — The Mt. Pleasant track and field teams took part in the 2023 Tulip Time Relays on Thursday, just as the Drake Relays were beginning in Des Moines.
The Panthers picked up seven total wins on the night, and both the girls’ team and the boys’ team finished Top-3. The Mt. Pleasant girls took second, with 157 points, just 5.5 points back of Pella. The Panther boys were third, scoring 103 points.
Mt. Pleasant had one win on the girls’ side, and it came in the relays. The 4X100 relay team of Courtney Raub, Bailay Jalas, Tristian Shull and Andi Scott took first place, in 51.03 seconds.
Taking second for the Panther girls on the track was Scott in the 100-meter dash (13.29 seconds), Rellana Van Deuren in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.30), and the 4X200 team of Van Deuren, Jalas, Raub and Kynlee White (1:51.71).
In the field, the Panther girls had three second-place finishes. Elsie Lange took silver in the long jump by leaping 15 feet, 4 inches. Ava English took second in the shot put, throwing it 36 feet, 4 inches. Savannah Slobodnik was second in the discus throw, with a hurl of 111 feet, 2 inches.
The Panther boys had six wins on the day, including three from Avin Truong. Truong won the 100-meter dash with a time of 23.25 seconds. He took the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches, and he won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 2 inches.
Will Davidson took first in the 110-meter high hurdles, crossing the tape in 14.75 seconds. Gabe Feldmann won the 800-meter run, in 2:08.37, and the 4X800 team of Jacob Richtman, Fledmann, Isaac Rynders and Ben Carthey won, in 8:26.02.
Mt. Pleasant’s 4X400 team of Feldmann, Richtman, Carthey and Mason Sloat took second. That quartet crossed the line in 3:33.66.
