FT. MADISON - In their first meeting of the season, the Mt. Pleasant girls had to grind out a five-point win after getting the go-ahead layup in the final two minutes. On Tuesday night, the Panthers made sure it wouldn't be that close the second time around.
Mt. Pleasant jumped all over Ft. Madison from the opening tip, beating the Bloodhounds in the Hound Dome, 48-30.
The Panthers went up 10-2 after the first quarter and held a controlling 28-11 lead at the halftime break.
Ft. Madison played Mt. Pleasant a lot closer in the second half, but the damage was already done.
Lydia Stewart had a huge game, scoring 18 points on 7-12 from the field. She also led the squad with two assists.
Emma Huckabone scored eight points. Andrea Lopreato had six. Kenna Lamm, Isabel Ashton and Sydni Coleman scored three apiece. Lamm also co-led the team with six rebounds.
Tristian Shull had two points and three steals. Elli Liechty scored two. Avery Sutter had one point and six rebounds, and both Kate Schimmelpfennig and Emma Rugg each scored one point.
Mt. Pleasant is now 4-8 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Due to weather concerns, the Panthers will play at Fairfield tonight (Thursday) at 6:15 p.m., with the boys game following.
