Panther girls drop road game at Notre Dame

BURLINGTON - The Mt. Pleasant girls basketball team couldn't muster enough strength to take down No. 9 (Class 1A) Notre Dame on Monday night. The Panthers returned home from Burlington with a 60-35 loss.
Mt. Pleasnt struggled to contain the Burlington offense early, giving up a game-high in points in the first quarter. Notre Dame led 22-10 after eight minutes.
The Panthers were able to cut Notre Dame's lead by one point with an 11-10 second quarter. At the half, the Nikes led 32-21.
Mt. Pleasant was held to single digits in both the third nad fourth quarters. Notre Dame stretched its lead to 46-27 after three quarters and continued to pull away with a 14-6 fourth quarter.
Elli Liechty scored nine points on the night to lead Mt. Pleasant. Tristian Shull had seven points, five steals and three assists. Lydia Stewart had seven points and three assists of her own.
Emma Huckabone ended the night with five points. Sydni Coleman had three, and the duo of Kenna Lamm and Andrea Lopreato had two points apiece.
Mt. Pleasant is now 4-14 overall. The Panthers will try and improve on their 3-5 Southeast Conference record when they host Burlington on Thursday, February 6.
