Panther girls drop two games over weekend

DONNELLSON - The Mt. Pleasant girls' basketball team fell in a couple of tight road losses this weekend. The Panthers lost 73-40 on Friday night at Mediapolis, and 53-32 at No. 8 (3A) Central Lee on Saturday.
Mt. Pleasant had all sorts of trouble with Mediapolis' offense, especially Maya Johnson and Helaina Hilliard, who combined for to go 9-17 from behind the three-point line. Johnson had 26 on the night, and Hilliard finished with four.
The Panthers trailed Mediapolis 18-8 after one quarter, 38 -15 at halftime and 51-28 after the third quarter.
Sadie Carrasco had nine points and six rebounds to lead Mt. Pleasant. Elli Liechty had six points and six rebounds, and the duo Isabel Ashton and Sydni Coleman added six points each.
Maddie Williamson and Lydia Stewart scored four points apiecei n the loss. Emma Huckabone scored three, and Ryann Davidson had two.
The Panthers trailed 14-8 after one quarter at Central Lee on Saturday, and were behind 29-14 at halftime. Mt. Pleasant won the third quarter 13-9 to cut the Hawks' lead to 38-27 after three periods, but Central Lee pulled away in the final eight minutes.
Stewart scored eight points in the loss. Williamson had seven points and three assists. Liechty had four points and 12 rebounds. Carrasco and Huckabone had four each. Coleman finished the night with three points and three assists. Ashton and Karsyn Lamm each scored one.
Mt. Pleasant still hasn't won in eight tries this season, but they'll have their best opportunity so far on Friday, Dec. 21. The Panthers will travel to Ft. Madison for their last game before Christmas break.
