Panther girls edged by West Branch at Ekstrand Relays

With three events to go during the Thursday night Ekstrand Relays, the Mt. Pleasant girls' track team led West Branch by 12 points. Following those last three events, West Branch scored 34 points to edge Mt. Pleasant by six, 153-147, to take first place.

Though Mt. Pleasant finished second in team scoring, the Panthers picked up six event wins, including a 400 meter sweep by Kaitlin Jones. Jones won the 400 meter run in 63.54 seconds and the 400 meter hurdles in 70.98.

Also finishing first was Chloe Haffarnan in the 800 meter run in 2:29.91, the 4x800 meter relay (Emma Ludwig, Taryne Shull, Sierra Wyse, Haffarnan) in 10:36.2, the 4x200 meter relay (Rebekah Kimzey, Kelsey Smith, Wyse, Taylor Shull) in 1:51.66 and the sprint medley relay (Kimzey, Wyse, Smith, Taylor Shull) in 1:58.78.

Mt. Pleasant travels to Fairfield for the Brookhart Relays on Monday, May 2, followed by the Southeast Conference meet on Thursday, May 4, at Keokuk.
