FT. MADISON - The Mt. Pleasant girls' soccer team will have to wait another day to clinch the Southeast Conference outright. The 14th-ranked Panthers had a shot to wrap up the conference crown on Tuesday, but their plans were spoiled by Ft. Madison, who upset MP 1-0.
Mt. Pleasant outshot Ft. Madison, but the Bloodhounds squeaked the only goal through, scoring 20 minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers weren't able to tie the game in the second half and had to settle for a season split. The Panther previously defeated the Bloodhounds 2-0 in Mt. Pleasant.
It was only Mt. Pleasant's second loss of the season, dropping them to 8-2 overall. They fell to 6-1 in conference play, still one game ahead of the Hounds.
The junior varsity team picked up a 3-0 win. Kendin Scheitlin had a header goal to open up the scoring, Abby West put one in from just outside the box, and Regan Seberg sent a long shot over the keeper's head.
The Panther varsity team will look to wrap up conference play with a win and clinch the SEC title outright on Thursady, May 9, when they host Washington at East Lake Park.
