Panther girls pummel West Burlington-Notre Dame

The Mt. Pleasant girls' tennis team cruised in their home meet on Tuesday night against West Burlington-Notre Dame. The Panthers rolled the Nikes 7-2 to move to 3-3 overall this season.
Mt. Pleasant won five singles matches to clinch the victory early on, taking each of the bottom five games.
Hallie Sandeen nipped Bethany Shane 8-6 in the No. 2 singles match for Mt. Pleasant's biggest win of the game. Shaleen Thiengmany dropped Cortney Erickson 8-1 in the No. 3 match, and No. 4 Breeana Runyon topped Joleen Kelly 8-3.
Sierra Barton rolled Frankie Taylor 8-1 in the No. 5 match. Olivia Larson outlasted Binita Guantum 8-4 in the No. 6 match. The lone singles loss went to No. 1 Erin Zihlman who fell 8-1 to McKenzie Fry in the No. 1 match.
The Panthers took two doubles matches as well. Thiengmany and Runyon defeated Erickson and Abi McKee 8-4 in the No. 2 doubles match, and Barton and Larson took out Kelly and Shuyu Xian 8-2 in the No. 3 match.
Zihlman and Sandeen fell in a tight doubles match. They stormed back from a slow start to take it down to the wire, but eventually fell 8-6.
Mt. Pleasant picked up four wins in the junior varsity matches. Madecyn Anderson won 4-1 in singles. Mikayla Ackles won 4-0 in singles. Anderson and Ackles picked up a 6-2 win in doubles. Samantha Broecker and Maggie Fitzpatrick won 6-2 in doubles, and Alouny Phosy and Morelia Elias won a 7-6 doubles match, taking the tiebreaker 8-6.
Mt. Pleasant will be back at home on Friday, April 26, when they host Ft. Madison.
